What is customer focus, anyway?
Well, it’s about putting your customer before yourself as the seller. Putting them at the centre of every conversation, interaction, strategy, and proposal. In other words- serving your customer as opposed to selling them a service.
And since we like to practise what we preach here at Shipley Asia Pacific, you can see why a whole web page dedicated to us is difficult to do. We don’t want to talk about ourselves; you have better things to do! And we don’t want to bore you with grandiose statements and mind-numbing cliches, either. So, let’s skip that part.

THE SHIPLEY STORY
1972 - SHIPLEY WAS BORN
Shipley Associates was founded by Richard Shipley as a communications consulting and training firm. Publishing original writing guides.1988 - SPECIALISATION IN PROPOSALS
Stephen Shipley (cousin to Richard) joins the organisation and begins to specialise in proposals and bids, opening offices in Utah, Washington DC, and Switzerland.
1989 - APMP FOUNDATIONS
Stephen founded the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) and to this day it is the only professional body representing proposal professionals. The Shipley Proposal Guide was used as the APMP’s Body Of Knowledge until their own variation was finalised.
2001 - 2011 - DOCUMENTING BEST PRACTICE
Stephen honed his focus on the bid and proposal world, overseeing the creation of the Shipley Proposal, Capture, and BD Lifecycle Guides with author Larry Newman. These publications are revised and updated every few years and are now the de facto work-winning standard for complex pursuits.
2003 - SHIPLEY REACHES APAC
Following in the footsteps of Shipley UK, Shipley Asia Pacific was created to service changing global markets and the growth in formal tendering processes. Our first office in Sydney was followed by offices in New Zealand, Japan and South Korea.
2008 - APMP ANZ Chapter
The Shipley Asia Pacific team was instrumental in creating a local base of APMP membership - leading to the current ANZ Chapter that now boasts over 500 members.
2014 - EXPANDING CAPABILITIES
Under new management, Shipley Asia Pacific has expanded our training and consulting offerings to meet the needs of our government and business customers at all stages of the Business Development Lifecycle. We have adapted and localised concepts, materials and media to suit our customers across the region.
2021 - REPRESENTATION IN SINGAPORE
We added a Singapore-based consultant to our roster to support our customers throughout Asia Pacific.
2023 - OUR GLOBAL TEAM
With over 14 offices around the world Shipley is globally recognised as the leading authority on business development and proposal process. Shipley's intellectual property is integrated into the core processes of leading defence contractors and has trained tens of thousands worldwide.
